The spy of the future...

(Paula Contreras & Ramón Fuentes' brainshark presentation)

Could you imagine an "army" of cockroaches remote controlled being used as the next superspies?  This is one of the possibles uses for Dr. Alper Bozkurt recent discovery.  Although Dr. Bozkurt envisioned and created this device to control insects and other animals, mostly to search and find earthquake victims under destroyed buildings, media already has given it other uses.

If you want to know more about how this device works, the comments of the crew in charge of this discovery and in what way media covered and published this discovery, you can visit our presentation.

Finally we left the following questions for being discussed.

1. Is it correct to use animals in experiments?
2. Should humans dominate animals against their will?
3. Could it be possible that humans use this technology for dominating other human beings in the future?

We hope you enjoy our work and questions and comments are welcomed.

  1. I have seen similar stuff in several movies. "Wanted" (Angelina Jolie) is one of them. It showed a man who would attach bombs to rats in order for them to get to innaccessible spots for humans and blow up the whole building.

I came up with something, Could it (insects or rats with devices attached) have been used in the 9/11 incident?

  2. If this could only be used to find survivors in earthquakes, fires, or other kinds of tragedies, it would be great. But what happens if it is in the wrong hands? I think The Daily Mail headline "James Bond's next super-bug" is completely accurate. I think it could be used--if it's not being already used--to spy other countries, and to go on missions that involve hostile environments, and since humans are very limited, the usage of animals are a very good resource. I am not saying that using animals in experiments or for "domination" is a disgusting idea, but as far as I am aware, cockroaches are one of the strongest insects that can survive in extreme environments. So why not using them? If they are going to be useful for good purposes that can contribute to a better and faster way of helping people in tragedies, it would definitely be a good idea.
