Three New Kinds of Gadgets!

Last Tuesday afternoon I did my first class as an English teacher practitioner –It was very exciting, by the way! I was in charge of an 8º grade and I had to start teaching them a unit that contained the topic of new technologies and some grammar related to the structure of “passive voice."

Regarding the subject of new technologies, there was a listening activity that pointed out to the new kinds of devices that have been developed during the last time. Jeff, the student who had traveled to Las Vegas in order to visit a technology fair to know everything about these gadgets, said there were three new amazing inventions that are already being sold online: 3D computers, solar bags, and electronic pen scanners.

According to Jeff’s description, by covering a screen with a special 3D film and wearing 3D glasses people are able to watch old movies and photos on computers --it sounds great, doesn’t it? Then, he mentioned the solar bags, which look like normal bags, but they can generate a power used for batteries of cellphones and MP3 players; so, we won’t need to use electricity anymore! Can you believe it?

In the case of electronic pen scanners, my favorites! , they are meant to read a text and store the information on their memories; furthermore, this information can be transferred to a computer via a USB flash drive. Also, these pens have advantages in terms of design, portability and price! I’m sure all students will love it!

Which one of these gadgets would you like to have?

  1. Love to see how you personalize your postings!!! Perfect link between "real life" and school life.
I would go for the solar bag because I am simply awful at remembering to charge my batteries, the new problem for me would be to make sure the bag gets some solar light to be recharged...

  2. Wow, it seemed that your student opened your mind to the technological world, this school bags and pen cameras are also aviable in our country, and their aren't as expensive as you might think. I would like to buy the school bag. But have you thought about if students should use this technology just for fun and a relly useful tool, or to cheat in exams?? a double-edge sword I think.

  3. Is technology a friend or a foe? Without any doubt technology has improved our lives, making teacher's work easy, but there are side effects. If you notice, ortography and grammar have been replace in order to chat quickly; childrens don't know how to look up words in a dictionary, let alone to go into a library... The gadgets you presented are really useful, and the solar bag also caught my attention.

  4. I personally would LOVE to have the electronic pen scanner! I think that it would be really useful to scan parts of books instead of photocopy them. We would save money at JP's. By the other hand I would like to have the solar bag but I think that it is a little bit unsightly.
