~ There is Hope

We all love our mothers, right? Without them we wouldn't be able to survive because they have given us everything we need, from our education to simple good night kisses. And, of course, the most important thing is that they gave birth to us and that without them the world wouldn't have the honor to have us. Just joking.

However, and unlike your mother and mine, there are a lot of women in the world who cannot have children because of a biological impediment, wich is called infertility. Learn more about infertility here.

According to experts, infertility is common problem. "Just about 10 percent of women (6.1 million) in the United States ages 15-44 have difficulty getting pregnant or staying pregnant, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)." Imagine what is it like in the rest of he world.

Good news!

Recently, however, a very important medical advance has hit the news and it might bring change to infertile women around the world.

In Sweden, the first two womb (uterus) transplants were conducted. The procedures took place at the university's Sahlgrenska Hospital, and were completed by more than ten surgeons. Dr. Michael Olausson told in a interview that "the procedures have been a success, but the final proof of success will be the birth of a healthy child."

This medical breackthrough is not only important for this women who only have to wait to know if they are going to able to conceive, but also for the rest of the women population. It might bring joy to hundreds of women who are not able to conceive, women with no uterus, women that are transgendered and so on and so forth.

I think this not only important but also a very beautiful moment in history.

What do you think about this? Would you think of this option if you were not able to have children? What do you think about these two women?

  1. I think is a great piece of news, but there's something I don't get it. Since the uterus is transplanted, the genes are from the other person, right?. So, you are able to feel how is like to be pregnant.
Wouldn't be easier just to adopt?. As I mentioned before, the only plus is to have the experience to carry a baby.

    1. You got a point there, Domi. I have heard things from women who loved the process of carrying a baby and others who did not fancied very much. A baby of your own is what could be beautiful, nobody denies it (...), but an adopted baby is also a good option.

  2. i was going to mention the same. thee is no doubt that these are great news for all those women who want to feel the experience of having a baby and all the process included, but maybe now less people will be interested in adopting children and many kids won't have the opportunity to grow in a family.

  3. I would have my couple go for adoption instead of a womb transplant. It is easier and way cheaper. Besides, the amount of left children is really high and it would be great for them to have a family.
