Old magic.

Can you picture yourself on a rainy day, looking through the window with a cup of coffee on your hands? Nice, isn’t it? What would you be lacking to make it even more perfect? Personally, I could not imagine myself in that situation, without music.

Music is always there when you need it. It can cheer you up when you are sad or even the other way around. It sets us in a mood that goes accordingly to the rhythm, lyrics and or even the voice of the singer which we are listening to. Music is perfect. You can take it with you on your mp3, cell-phone or even playing repeatedly on your mind.

But what about those times in which you could not listen to music anywhere you went to?

My favorite technological invention is the cassette. I know you might think I‘m crazy or that there is nothing new about a cassette, but I have always been fascinated about them.

Cassettes are magical. When I was younger I always wondered how did they work or from where did the music come from, and you cannot tell me you never played with your pens and a cassette.

Whether it is just for you to listen to some of your old favorite music or to have fun as if you were a kid, the invention of the cassettes came to change people’s lives forever and I could not imagine the world without them.

What are your thoughts on cassettes? Were they and important invention in people's lifestyle?

  1. I really enjoyed reading your entry. When I was a child, I used to record music from the radio on the cassette, I felt so technological doing that! On the contrary, nowadays cassettes are old-fashioned devices; in fact, I don't know people who use cassettes. Dvds, cds, mp3,mp4, cellphones, etc. are present in people's life in order to save songs, listen to music, record something, and so on and so forth.
I consider them not important in our lives now, but they were very usefu before! Almost everybody had cassettes, but now nobody does. It happens the same with diskettes. Technology has been improved and developed in time in order to have a simplier life. Now we can have laptops or mp3 (very modern devices) but maybe tomorrow these will be out-of-date. Life passes too fast, but technology passes even faster!

  2. Thank you for your comment. I could'nt agree more. I think the many changes that technology has brought to us to simplify our lives have made objects, like this one, to be left behind and turned them into useless items for the times we're living in.
However I think that it is always good to look back and remember how we were and how we got here. I still keep all my cassettes :)

  3. Hi Roxana,
Interesting post. Not so sure, though if I understood what makes cassettes more special if compared to other types of music storage devices... or is it just the memories from childhood that are triggered once you get across one?
