Our Almighty Lord, The Remote Control!

Did you know that this marvelous invention was created more than a hundred years ago?! Let's thank Nikola Tesla for this great invention that has made our lives easier for so long!

We all know that, in some way, this simple device represents power in our homes; just try to remember one of the times you fought against your brother or sister over it, or your father saying “I put the rules here, so the remote control is mine!” We all want to have it! Maybe the first thing you thought was "I don't watch television", first, we both know that's not true and second, I can tell you that the remote control can be use to control many different things apart from T.V. such as DVDs, toys, the electric lighting at your house, and even long distance mechanisms like the "Curiosity".  What I want to say is that this ordinary apparatus represents all what technology is about: Simplifies our lives, and even when it goes unnoticed, it is a fundamental tool!

So tell me if you think the same way as I do! Or maybe you've not think in how important this invention is because nowadays it’s so ingrained to us that, as I said before, it goes unnoticed.

And now let’s get retro! Watch this old-fashion TV commercial about the very first Television with remote control. Have a laugh while you exercise your listening!

The technological world

If you ask me what does technology mean to me? I would say: “I do not care, take a look to my cell phone”. Ok, that is a pretty childish attitude, but we should take a deep look into this field. It is incredible how crucial is technology in our daily life nowadays. It is not just about if you are keen on tech or not, because it is something that has reached into every circle of our lives, so you just have to adapt to it. When we talk about the technology we immediately think of electricity, science, atoms in a lab etc. But the truth is that technology is more than that.

According to the Oxford dictionary technology is: the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry, so as you can see technology can be any gadget such as a knife, brush teeth, soap, laptop, etc.

The other day I was watching a TV program in which they show how things were made, and it was shown the plumbing, how life was before the plumbing system were created. Honestly, it was a great thing! So, plumbing is not that important for you, because now you have it, but can you think if it were not like that? Because there are a lot of devices and new technologies that now we have, and we just take them for granted, so it is quite important to see how things have developed during the history.

What do you think? What is your favorite gadget? Can you imagine how would be life without it? Have you ever thought about it?.

Let there be light

If we start thinking about the most important technologies that the world had seen through the existence of the human kind, the one that is going to be presented in this text is considered a milestone in our history.

The human being has always tried to improve his life, and he has always wanted to make his existence more comfortable. The first question that comes to my mind is: Can you imagine reading or studying at night with just a little flame in the middle of your bedroom? The answer to this question at first glance would be, yes, maybe because it has something cliché.. but not for all the nights of the rest of your lives.

Since Thomas Edison had the awesome idea to invent this particular device, the world started to witness how the light was artificially created. Our lives were changed when the light bulb started to illuminate the most remote places in the world, distant corners that had never been illuminated before, now enjoy this eternal sparkle.

His invention made our lives hospitable to a wide range of human activities. The benefits that this change produced were innumerable. First, it gave the opportunity to lot of countries (Nordic countries that just receive 6 month of sunlight) to perceive light in the same way we, people from the west, did. Second, with this invention lots of other inventions started to see the light; and of course, it brought lots of bad things too,  that now societies are more aware of it, for example, climate change, light pollution, etc.

Can you imagine how the world would be now, if Thomas Edison had invented another source of the artificial light?
