Warning: Stop reading this right now!

Do we spend too much time in the computer? And if we do, are there any mental problems we could develop for this? Recent studies have shown that there is a relationship between the time spent in the computer and some mental disorders, such as stress and depression.

Spending too much time in the computer can lead to leave a side other personal and more important activities like eating properly, interacting with others and sleeping. As we can see, this addiction is harmful and it may affect your mental health and later your physical health, if you think you’re having problems like those mentioned before you need to set some limits when using the computer. Women, I must warn you too; if you like video games try to play less than an hour a day because gaming more than an hour and a half seems to affect more to women and lead them to depression.

Keep in mind your mental health. If you are not having any of those disorder still be aware!

And now if you want to fin out more specific information about the illnesses or disorders due to computers I invite you to watch this excellent video with Doctor Solomon. Enjoy!

Slaves of technology

Nowadays, people easily have access to technology. Internet, laptops, cell phones are key factors of that. However, with all these applied science, we tent to live our lives through it. Facebook, Twitter, even our e-mails are forms of communication that make us to be always connected to a website. When was the last time that you did not stay front a computer for a long time? And by a long time I am referring to a year. Do you remember? I do not think so.
During the last years, people in companies started to use internet as a source to exchange information with their workers. It is a fast way to be in contact with employees. Nevertheless, it is normal that people get tired of receiving messages or emails all the time.  The professor of London’s Global University, Caroline Sauvajol-Rialland, found out in a study that “excessive emails and general information result in social and psychological risks to employees and impoverishes the company”. Those workers spend 30% of their time at work attending calls or emails that demand immediate answers. Because of that, people get stress easily and their family lives start to disappear.

We are becoming slaves of technology and its changes. It would not surprise me that in a few years, the only way to show that we care for our beloved ones will be through internet. What do you think?

Technology: a double-edged weapon

Technology has become a very useful tool for education lately. It facilitates the practice of students, and it allows teachers to evaluate student’s skills inside the classroom as well as outside of it. Indeed, there are many important aspects that technology can promote in education; such as autonomous learning, problem-solving skills, balanced class development, etc. Nevertheless, technology in education can bring up a series of disadvantages for students and for education itself. For instance, technology emphasizes the social inequalities as not all the students have access to computers outside the educational institutions that is to say, schools or universities. This example leads us to another disadvantage which is the importance of previous knowledge on how to use technology; a student that doesn’t master the use of computers should learn to do it because the fact of noticing that gap could make him/her feel frustrated with the task, which might become useless. In my opinion, teachers should be careful with the use and over-use of technology, and they need to make sure that all or at least most of the students in the class have access to a computer. When this factor is taken into account, all the advantages can come about, thus successful learning may touch off.

As if you were there

Computers, laptops, blackberries are nothing without the Internet. They are just devices without much functionality, I mean they are useful to do some tasks faster, but if you do not have Internet is pointless.

The Internet facilitates a better and faster communication among people, especially when the distance is significant. You might think that with telephone is enough, you can call someone and that it is, but the thing is that thanks to the Internet you can get another kind of information, for instance you can Skype someone and you will see his/her reactions, or if you need a paper, it can be easily scan; while before the invention of the Internet you had to call someone and then fax something, using different gadgets.

Another feature is that through the Internet we can achieve a lot of news from all over the globe, so it is not necessary to be in the exact place where a new is happening. A piece of new when is share, facilitate activities such as: journalism, but also those regarding to business. For instance, it is not necessary going to the trade center and makes some transactions; it is enough with your Internet connection.
Honestly, I think is the best invention ever! you have to be kidding me if you said that you have never use the Internet, specially to visit facebook.

The magic of modern communication

Nowadays, within last generations, there are few people that do not know how to use a computer to write and read a document, see the news,  play computer games or to communicate through e-mails, Facebook or msn. Kids, adolescents and adults  use the computer for different purposes. Who have not seen a Little kid watching cartoons in YouTube?
Most of the young people and adults know how to look for information through web browsers and they also use Facebook and msn to communicate with their contacts.
Computers are present in homes, companies and institutions of all kinds, it is part of our daily life, wherever we. Such is its importance and presence that it has become a need to most people, especially among young ones, students and people who work in offices in general.
¿How internet has changed our life? - internet is nowadays almost a need related to quick access to information and communication with others, which in front of a computer with internet access, can be satisfied almost immediately .it is great to be able of remove any doubt related to a subject in which a don’t have any knowledge about it at one moment and in the next five minutes stop being ignorant about this subject, thanks to a simple search in Google. There are even new words, for example: googling, which is the word included in our modern lexicon to describe the action of looking for something in Google. I can write any word of what i need o i want to know  and after a “magic” enter i get a wide list of pages with information related to that only word that initiated the search. It’s simply amagazing.
If i want to get in touch with somebody, through an e-mail i can inform her/him what i want, being this a more formal mean that can be used in work or study areas .In higher education most of the information, whether documents for the class, supporting documents, e-mails from teachers, grades, messages through internet and even the registration process is through this mean. What benefits brings the internet? : A fast communication, it saves time and money on transport, which allows giving that time in other activities.
In terms of social life internet lets to have many contacts available in msn, Facebook and other applications. We can interact, chat, talk and even see our friends or to know other people who may become friends or not. Most of young people and also adults are always in touch with their friends or family, which may be geographically close or far, in any city of this country or in some other continent. The romantic letter and telegram are part of the past. Is somebody who keeps using them? Maybe, but there is no doubt that the modern ways to communicate nowadays have simply “magic” (or a magic style)
A couple years ago we didn’t see the internet as a part of our normal life.
What new needs will appear with the development of new technologies?
