Endangered bees!

Our daily life depends on cell phones. We love them; actually, some of us cannot live without them. It is sure... they take an important part in our entire life. Nevertheless, while we are happy using them, environment has been hugely affected. Radiation can be dangerous for people as it can be for insects such as bees.

Scientists may have found the cause of the world's sudden dwindling population of bees. This research has shown tha the signal from cell phones not only confuses bees, but also may lead to their death. Bees sense the signals transmitted when the phones ring, and emit heavy buzzing noise during the calls ( as you can see in the picture). The calls act as an instinctive warning to leave the hive, but the frequency confuses the bees, causing them to fly erratically. In fact, the bees' buzzing noise increases ten times when a cell phone is ringing or making a call. The signals cause the bees to become lost and disoriented. The bees then die off, because they are not able to do their normal activities. This premature dying off of the bees causes the fruits and vegetables to not grow as normal, simply because pollination does not occur. This affects the harvest, which can have a significant impact upon the world's food stores now and in the future. In this webpage you can get informed about the enormous importance of bees in the ecosystem.

Mobile radiation effects can include loss of food crops and can decrease the food for animals that are used for meat, including cows, chickens, and more. This is worrisome! simply because we are not completely sure what the long-term effect may be. It should be something that needs to be carefully monitored to help determining if there is anything that can be done to decrease the dying off of bees to keep crops growing and the harvest strong. We know that cell phones may be convenient for people of all ages and sexes, but the long term effects may be difficult to live with. When will people be aware of this issue? Will be possible to take actions to stop this before it is too late?  Is technology indeed more important than nature, life, and earth?

How would it be...?

There are situations that make me stop for a second and make me think how would my (or our) lives be without daily things that seems to have been around us since always.

This is how, several weeks ago I wanted to call a friend of mine and I had no minutes left in my cell phone. I tried to contact her by facebook, twitter and Whatsapp and nothing worked. After a few hours I was desperate and I started wondering how would my parents communicate when they were teenagers and needed or wanted to talk if they were far away from each other.

So, after that day I started to appoint my dates as soon as possible and not to left it to the last minute were something can go wrong and make me pass a bad moment.  I also learned to not depend on my cell phone or on my computer, because suddenly the internet may fail, your battery may die or your minutes may be gone and all the plans that you had in your mind might simply be in vain if you did not talked to that person in advanced. So, the next time you schedule something do not trust 100% on the technology and start wondering right now how would your life be without something as simple and as important as a cell phone.

The technological world

If you ask me what does technology mean to me? I would say: “I do not care, take a look to my cell phone”. Ok, that is a pretty childish attitude, but we should take a deep look into this field. It is incredible how crucial is technology in our daily life nowadays. It is not just about if you are keen on tech or not, because it is something that has reached into every circle of our lives, so you just have to adapt to it. When we talk about the technology we immediately think of electricity, science, atoms in a lab etc. But the truth is that technology is more than that.

According to the Oxford dictionary technology is: the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry, so as you can see technology can be any gadget such as a knife, brush teeth, soap, laptop, etc.

The other day I was watching a TV program in which they show how things were made, and it was shown the plumbing, how life was before the plumbing system were created. Honestly, it was a great thing! So, plumbing is not that important for you, because now you have it, but can you think if it were not like that? Because there are a lot of devices and new technologies that now we have, and we just take them for granted, so it is quite important to see how things have developed during the history.

What do you think? What is your favorite gadget? Can you imagine how would be life without it? Have you ever thought about it?.

The telephone and its moment of glory

Do you remember how exciting it was when the telephone was ringing at your house? And even more breathtaking when the call was for you? Nowadays, we can’t say the same. The disenchantment that people are feeling with Bell’s invention is clearer through the years.
In our country, the telephone massified in the 20’s; nevertheless, it was a luxury which belonged only to wealthy people. Since those years until 2002, this device reached to the top of its glory with more than 3.5 million of handsets, but from there to now, it has had a very significant downtrend.
The main reason of the disappearing of this great invent resides in the innovation of communication and technology. The Internet, the cell phones, and the social networks have led that the telephone becomes in a useless and an old-world service. The comfort, the privacy, and the connection that cell phones give us is irreplaceable; the same as the internet together with the social network which allows us to communicate and to talk watching each other, almost instantly,  around the world.
Even though we can observe how the telephone has become in an obsolete device, it also possess some qualities that delay their demise. For example, as thelephones don’t need electricity to work, in Chile's last earthquake, a big part of them continued working, unlike the cell phones or Internet. It also works for people who live in the countryside where the telephone service is the only way to bring them internet or  to mantain them communicated.
So, do you think that it’s time to send the telephone to the museum? Or do we have to give it another opportunity in this more and more technological world? Think about it.
