Be a hero!

Ok, today it is time for me to tell you a short story about a girl that I met one day.
Her name was Javiera and she was the 3rd of 4 siblings. She was perfectly happy, had a lot of friends and was a very catholic child. She enjoyed going to church every Sunday and going to Schoenstatt on Fridays and Saturdays. Everything was perfect until one day a bleeding that was suspiciously hard to stop called her family’s attention. After several exams she was diagnosed with a disease that affected her veins and blood. The only solution to this was chemotherapy but it didn’t work. The next option was bone marrow transplant and as you may guess it didn’t arrive on time. Javiera died on December 5th, 2010 at age of 15.
Today in Chile there are more than 1370 people waiting for organ transplantation and another 1000 waiting for any kind of tissue; as cornea, bones, skin or heart valves.  But the reality says that only a few hundred of those men, women and children will actually receive help on time.
I personally am an organ donor and my family knows it. When I went to get my new ID card the lady didn’t asked me if I wanted to be donor even if she was supposed to do it by law.  Nonetheless I expressed my will because I don’t want more Javiera’s in my country.
I cannot stop wondering if you had a case as close as the one that I had it would make you think different about organ donations. I’m just asking you to stop for a minute and think in all those families that may be benefit after the dead of someone. It is time for us to give life!
