A Thief Who Steals from Another Thief

I’ve always been fond of music. Inexplicably for my family, clearly for me, when I was very young I was obsessed with POP Culture –well, I’m still, but now I can control it—so, I used to spend all the money I was able to save, buying CDs of my favorite artists.

Later on when the maturity knocked the door of my life, my friends incited me to surf on the dangerous oceans of the Internet; consequently, I discovered –alone!—how to download music for free. But, life has never been so fair and there is always something I do wrong: Every time I tried to do it, I used to provide my personal information in order to obtain what I wanted—Yes, I was stupid, I know!

I wish I had watched the video of Gary Kovac’s conference, before having given my name and e-mail address to thousands of web pages; for that reason, I looked for information about the disadvantages of downloading music for free.

Based on what I found--I must say--I’m supposed to be a thief, since I’m not paying and that is considered illegal. I also could be in jail for violating the copyright laws and being publicized throughout the world due to my criminal act-Ok, I’m getting scared. But, I didn’t know I could be prosecuted by a few users when downloading music and also my identity could be stolen through virus or malwares that collect my computer’s information—Now I wish I were a clever cyber user!

How could I avoid this situation? Here there are some tips I found!

  • You should invest in quality anti-virus software with proven results.
  • Always access the Internet from behind a firewall (it adds a security layer between your PC and the Internet, destroying your files).
  • Use a PC you know is secure, because hackers can easily retrieve sensitive data.
  • Watch out for phishing scams, which use fraudulent emails and web sites, pretending to be legitimate businesses.
  • Never install potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) like spyware or adware on your PC.
What do you think about this topic? Are these suggestions enough to prevent being in trouble?

Just in case, I discovered this amazing video that could help us to protect our facebook account in order to avoid being hacked! Did you know how to do it? Was it useful for you?
