Most of the airports have implemented x-ray technology in scanners that show up hidden potential explosives or weapons, but not all of them have been approved by the Europe Union as they emit radiation that can be harmful for the human body and can increase the potential skin cancer risks.
One of the airports that had to remove this type of scanner, is the Airport of Manchester, UK. Users' appreciation of the scanner was positive since it is better than being frisked, this is, when security uses their hands to search their body for hidden illegal objects, and because it is one of the best improvements in security in the UK. But, when an image shows the so called "threat areas", security staff are required to frisk then anyway.
The Airport of Manchester was required to replace those high x-ray tech scanners with a more friendly machines that instead of using radiation, uses radio-frequency technology. However, they do not want to replace them since it would cost a lot of money, they would have to hire new personnel, and update the devices.
Religious groups and parents in general, are concern about the fact that any person in the security staff can see you naked, and they are afraid that they could see a naked picture of their small children, and they have all the right to know what kind of people does the airport hire as security personnel.
This doesn't only happens in the UK, but also in the US, and here is a video showing why people are so angry about the new scanner implementation.
So I wonder...Is it worth to have this high tech in scanners to prevent any explosion terrorist attack, when your children can be exposed?
