Sweet dreams

Some of us have to wake up early in the morning and we are all the day complaining because we are sleepy, I’ve always said: classes too early in the morning should be forbidden. Other people said we are sleepy because we rather to stay wake up in the night until late, so the next morning we suffer the consequences. Not all the cases are like that, some of us go to bed early, nevertheless still have issues to fall asleep.

The importance of have a good sleep radicates in the fact that our body needs some time to get full of energy, also there are other properties and negative consequences if we haven’t sleep a reasonable period of time.

As students, it’s highly important to sleep around 7-8 hours otherwise we will see how our performance at classes is affected (1). Since our mind is like a computer needs time to clean up memories and makes stronger connections.

Another interesting point that I found out is the relation between lack of sleep and obesity. Definitely this catches my attention, due the discussion we had the other day. The relation is based on the fact that the lack of sleep increases the stimulus to consume food and increases appetite-hormones. (2)
So, as you can see to have a good quality and quantity of sleep will improve your life, next time someone come to you and tell you: “You shouldn’t sleep that much”, you know what to do.

Do you know other pros/cons?

  1. Some time ago I read a newspaper article claiming that our generation has changed its sleeping habits in comparison to our parents.
Twenty years ago people didn't have access to internet, cable TV, smartphones, etc; for that reason, they went to bed at nine o'clock. Our generation has been exposed to all these developments and that has changed our sleep patterns; in fact, this problem has a name: the Delayed sleep-phase disorder (a body’s timing system disorder). According to that, I think we are not 100% responsible of being sleepy at 8 o´clock since even when we go to bed early in the night we cannot fall asleep immediately because of this syndrome. It is true that the lack of energy associated to few sleeping hours is terrible for our body and mind but, teach our system a new schedule requires a lot of effort and it won’t be cured in one night.
