Birth Control Pill for Men (Video Presentation)

As we are all adults, we are aware of the risk of having a sexual intercourse without protection --especially if we don’t want to face the consequences.

Contraception methods are well-known, but most of them are for women; so, what about men? Condoms and vasectomy are some options, but what if men could take a pill just like women do? This is the purpose of our presentation and we want you to think about it.

After you watch our video presentation, we want you to reflect on these questions:

Would you be willing to take pills as a contraception method, considering that it is not so invasive than women’s pills contraception? Would you want your sexual partner to take them? Take into account the synthetics hormones present in women’s pills.

We hope you will enjoy the our presentation,

Dominique and Sergio.

  1. Very interesting topic! Women who take birth-control pills are more common than men taking care of their sexual intercourse. But I think that if men and women can avoid having a baby, they have to do it -- obviously if they don't want to be parents. I'm not sure enough if this pill would be so effective, because as you mention in your conclusion, mice are not humans, they don't have the same characteristics and body... so maybe applying this pill in men, the results would be different. Who knows? Moreover, I wonder myself if this pill has counter-indications like infertility. Maybe, if I had a boyfriend, I would find out what are the benefits and risks of taking the pill in order to be sure that it is safe and good.

    1. The pill didn't present problems in terms of infertility, after scientist stop the treatment in mice. But, of course there is a chance that in humans won't happen the same.
And that's the thing, if science give an opportunity to men to take care their sexual life, without interfering with their sexual drive for instance, it's an option they should take.
Also, according to the study, this pill won't cause any damage in men, as it happens with the pill for women.

  2. Now i understand those jokes about vasectomy my high school classmates played all the time...

Men would go for it if their health were threatened by some sexually transmitted disease.
Even if it, in a certain way, violates what religion says (it could be any but especially the Jewish religion), I think it is the treatment any sexually active man is looking for.
This is a controversial topic, Dominique, the topic that has something attractive for religious dogmas and old beliefs. Have you read the bible? Clearly says that every sexual act has to be guaranteed being for procreation, and this clearly gives freedom for men to have sex with anyone and be offspring-free.

    1. First of all, this presentation was made with Sergio.

Now, of course it's a controversial topic but we need to remember that we got over those years in which the church had something to say. If someone follows the principles point out in the bible, that's fine, but science need to provide an alternative for those who don't believe on it. For those who want to have control on their lives. Do you imagine what would happen after every intercourse without protection?, the world would be densenly populated, and then, what? the church will feed those children? would give them education, clothes? To be a parent is a huge responsability, and honestly, I don't think all of us are ready for that.
In my opinion, contraceptives methods gives us an oportunity to decide what we want for our future, without affecting our inner desires, since we are animals and sometimes we let us drive by the flesh. But we shouldn't forget that we are drive (in a part) for the rational side, so we need to think on the consequences of our acts.

  3. This is really a controversial and amazing science development.

I think what's going to be really controversial, more than the treatment itself, it will be how the social roles are going to change. Women in general are always the ones who have to change to be "appreaciate" by the male population. Giving the chance to make them take part of a social dimension it was said to be just for us, will certaintly give us a new beggining and who knows? maybe in the future men will take part in a lot more things we thought just women should do. right?

  4. Domi, Sergio, I loved your topic! It's really interesting. I had heard about this new method but I didn't know a thing about it.
I guess this invention is incredible since from now on men have the chance to protect themselves without using an invasive method (such as condoms and vasectomy). It will also give them the security to have a full sexual life and feel no fear if they partner is taken the pill or no; we know that many women for different reasons decide having a baby without telling to their partners. Using this method they'll be sure of their option.
Anyway, I think it's a great opportunity to let men be on charge of their sexual life (let's face it, most of the time women are the responsible). Even though, I wouldn't trust just on my partner’s commitment and I would use a contraceptive method as well.
