Nanotechnology in food

Nanotechnology in food

Many studies are being undertaken in the field of nanotechnology regarding food. For instance, scientist are embedding silver nanoparticles into the plastic in which bins are packaged, the particles will kill any bacteria stored in the bins that could be harmful to human body; scientists are also trying to develop nanosensors that could eventually detect unsafe elements in a package plant; nanocapsules are being developed in order to provide people with the nutrients they need. This nanocapsules might have the function of releasing nutrients inside of people´s body when nanosensors may detected that the organism is in lack of them.  But that is not all; experts are also working on “interactive food”. This could be possible with nanocapsule containing flavor and color booster which are activated when someone could eat the food. However, the method that will be used to activate the boosters has not been told, yet. With this, we can come to a conclusion that not only is technology a detonator when it comes to obesity, but also a collaborator if it is well-used. So, should be blame technology for the incredible risen in people obesity? Or should we introspect and think about our own habits and how they affect our body and health? Isn’t it all about taking technology as a “friend” instead of an “enemy”?

  1. Well this is very interesting, I was aware about the nanotechnology itself but I didn't know about its application on food, and as I've always said, the problem is Not about technology, HUMAN BEING represent the most dangerous vector that exist in the world; in order to reach their desires no matter what those imply. Imagine using that helpfull technology to kill your enemies from inside trough food, are the people responsible ... yes their are!

    1. Yes, I think that´s a good point. Actually, common people cannot interfere or be aware of what scientists are doing, and that unawareness might be dangerous for us. Nevertheless, I guess that you´re missing an important point here, which is that in this case technology aspires to be preventive regarding people´s health.

  3. Materials with nano-size particles have always existed in nature and the atmosphere. Obviously that men are giving them now other kind of uses that at my perspective it would be dangerous in a way, for instance, all these particulars which men are creating are stranger agents for our environment and body, so maybe it would cause new diseases in the future or poison all the things that exists in our planet (water, nature, etc...), but on the other hand are very useful in order to prevent lots of diseases that are related with the lack of nutrients, so the challenge for the human being is to try to find an equilibrium between this two sides.
