Penetration of technology in our lives, is it that an issue?

In the year of the announcement  of social networking as a mean to spread true by the Pope, we still hear some mentioning that the penetration of technologies –especially social networks- may cause severe damage to our interaction.

There is no doubt that this new gadgets normally take us by surprise but, aren’t we surrounded by technology every single second of our days? All the things we create, from the most basic tools to the most powerful war weapons were at a certain time innovations that somehow revolved our world –and still do it. To say that we worry about the penetration of technology in our life is similar to suggest that we should not use knives cause some people have got killed by them. We can’t deny the fact that humans create an artificial environment since they are not able to survive on their own in this planet anymore.

An example of this unstoppable progress is proposed by Gordon E. Moore. Moore declares that along the history computing hardware, the number of integrated transistors on circuits duplicates every two years. This exponential improvement leads us to think how much will take us to create a computer as powerful as our brain. Some of us know what is to record a cassette/VHS, to have a 128mb mp3 player or a 512mb RAM computer. Now, having a 8 core computer with 8gb RAM makes me wonder, how much will take for humans to be obsolete?
