Abortion: Do we have the right to decide ?

What is abortion?

Abortion is the termination of an embryo or fetus. The procedure differs depending on which stage the parents decide to have the abortion. For example, if a woman is 7-8 weeks pregnant, doctors could give her a pill to release the embryo from the uterine wall. In this case, when the embryo is released, it feels and looks like the woman is just having her period.

However, if the mother is between the 8 and 12 weeks of pregnancy, abortion becomes a more invasive procedure. Doctors vacuum the embryo out surgically. At this stage, the fetus probably feels pain since its nervous system is completely developed.

These procedures exist because of new technologies that were originally created in order to further the field of medicine. Unfortunately, they are used in order to end with the beginning of new lives that are not responsible of their mother’s choices, and, furthermore; facing pregnancy is really difficult if people are not prepared to have a child, since there a lot of factors people will have to deal with during parenthood. An abortion, then, is not a decision easy to take, but it has to be done with responsibility.

Regarding what you just read:
Do you think there is a period of pregnancy in which abortion is not unethical?

  1. Abortion is always a controversial topic. In my opinion, it's not the same a girl who got pregnat becase she didn´t take the pill or her partner didn´t use a condom that the girl who was raped. What about the future child? I don´t believe to have the right of deciding for other life. There are so many couples who can't have their own children that putting your child into adpotion is a better solution forr women who can't keep their babies.

  2. This is a very complicated topic. I have mixed feelings about this, first of all because, as ramon said, I dont feel I have the right to decide whether another person lives or dies. I think these kind of treatments just allow people to be more irresponsible, since they will not take responsibility for their decisions in their sex life. Abortion will seem like an easy solution for their mistake.
On the other hand, I think that abortion should be allowed for women who have been raped, since it wasn’t their choice or their fault that resulted in them being pregnant. How would you feel having a baby inside you that was created out of a crime against you? Feeling that baby move and feeling a part of that horrible person that hurt you, growing inside you, I think it's wrong to ask a victim of a crime to carry a baby that wasn’t the product of love or choice for 9 months.
Now I ask myself the following question, abortion is always related to women because the responsibility is always on their shoulders as they have to carry the baby, but what about the men who reject their paternity and never came back? Isn’t that another kind of abortion? Why are there no campaigns, or debates on television, where the religious are debating this question? Why is it that abortion is a sin, but leaving your children isn’t? Where is the outrage over that?

  3. As you’ve been saying, this is a controversial topic. In my opinion, I am in favor about abortion when is about rape or violation, and of course at very early stage of the embryo; I agree with some Scientifics who say that embryo in the first months it’s just a cell in development process, it isn’t a human being, so you are not killing him. Think about the psychological problems of that mother or a marriage, in which the wife suffered a violation and gets pregnant as a result; they are going to have a baby from the person that committed that cruel crime. However, I am completely against abortion when the mother got pregnant and he just doesn’t want to have it, that’s irresponsibility.
