Stop studying ! Start sleeping !

Have you ever felt more tired after having sleeping problems the night before?  How much can affect you during the day  your sleeping at night?
It is not a such a great discovering telling you that the more you rest, the better your day will be. As you might have experiencied, sleeping less than 6 hours per night can be really annoying for you the next day, given that your brain is not working as well as it could. That have a high impact on your abilities such as, concentration and creativity; also, the ability of making good decisions and solving  problems  can be affected  by your lack of sleeping hours. Apart from that, irritability, sensitivity, bad humour and, in some cases depression might be the consequences of an awful day.

On the other hand, sleeping enough hours ( between 7 and 9, depending on the age) and naps during the afternoon can provoke the opposite effect on you. Sleeping well  plays a vital role in memory development; also, it has a multiplicity of benefits: our brains and bodies restore; our systems reboot; our processing and creativity ability increase; we are more likely to make better desicions; we can even find solutions to new problems while our memories and intelligence improve, among other benefits...

All in all, there is a great necessity for people to start planning their sleeping times because,  it is an habit that  is getting lost nowadays because of the society's  new way of living. So, as a matter of advise,  organize your schedule ! , study hard !, but also, sleep a lot . The idea is try to finish the semester  instead of the semester finishes you...

Let's read more about sleeping with Dr. Leaf !!

  1. Osvaldo, I totally agree with you that it is really important that we devote enough time for resting. If not, we will not be ankle to fulfil with all the assignments that are scheduled for this month, specially during the last weeks. Additionally, it is necessary that we eat well and do not skip any meal so that we could finish this term in good health conditions.

  2. I totally agree with this topic. I also know that not sleeping enough hours slows down your metabolism which means that your quality life gets worst and in the case of girls, it makes you fatter.

sleeping at least 7 hours day should be enough, but when you get older this changes. In the case of grandmas, they have to sleep 5 hours because they don't really need it.

  3. Good advice! Sadly most of time, the end of the semester finishes me. I guess most of us have really big troubles when sleeping (at least I do) and that affect us the next day. I mean, during our Method classes we are all sleeping!
Some time ago I read an article that exposed the habits that our generation is adapting and sleeping was a huge problem since we spent long hours on the internet or watching TV instead of going to bed. For this reason we have changed our sleep patterns and at 1 am we are wide awake. According to the research we stay up all night and wake up at noon. The problem is that our classes start at 8 o’clock!
I think that we should try to adapt our schedule. Follow our generation sleeping patterns won’t end up well because we have to attend classes in the morning and we can’t do anything about it. at least there are plenty methods that we can use to sleep like drink hot milk or take a bath before going to bed (and turn off the TV, of course!).

  4. It was funny reading your post because while I was trying to concentrate on it, everything around me turned out more interesting. I think it is because I just sleep 5 hours last night.
In our oral presentation with Karla, we also find out that sleepy people make bad food choices. We eat all we want but not because we are hungry, we eat all that we can because we are tired and we need something to make us being awake.
We are living in a world in which we are getting used to do so many things that we forget out health. Sleeping just a few hours can be very dangerous to our lives, especially because we can walk like zombies in the city and so distracted with the things that are happening out there that a car might crash and you may not realize of it. Be careful!
In my case, I think I sleep too many hours when I have the possibility to do it. I can sleep 14 hours if I do not have things to do, it is really relaxing but, at the same time, I wake up more tired than before. I do not know why is that, can somebody tell me? Please?

  5. It was so interesting to read your entry, Osvaldo. Ad Daniela says, on the end of the semester is really difficult for me to go to bed early and if I do it I really feel the efects on my grades. And when I pass over the night the next day is an awful day for me. I feel sick and with fever. I really hope to graduate from coleege one day and sleep tight every night.

  6. I am happy that all of you liked this entry. When I read about this I thought that it was true, but in way there effects were quite exaggerated. Unluckily on Wednesday I noticed that I was wrong, I just slep 3 hours because of my method's test and even walking up sausalito was a torture. Also I had some stomach problems because of that. To conclude it was a nightmare that day, but I could prove on my own the consequences of having a bad sleeping night

  7. I think that everyone loved this entry because we can relate to it.
In my case I have horrible sleeping habits. Sometimes I stay up all night and sleep only for two or three hours on the afternoon, sometimes I just don't sleep at all and if I am lucky some days I feel sleepy and I compensate for all those other days in the week that I didn't.

I know I have to go and see the doctor but I just don't have any time. I wish nights weren't so aweful for me because I have so much trouble trying to fall asleep.

And the consequences are obvious. I'm always on a bad mood, I always have stomach problems and I just can't handle it anymore.

So thank you for sharing this!
