Technology arrived at soccer's world !

Soccer is more than a mere sport. It is life, it is passion; also, it can be either frustration or joy, or maybe,  both at the same time. During the last century, soccer has become in the most popular sport around the world, with millions followers attending stadiums every single weekend to watch matches of more than one hundred leagues.
Through out the years, soccer rules have not  been subject of much changes. But during the last decade, and because of many  controversial matches and referee's desisions, the word technology  started to be an alternative to solve those problems that soccer teams use to deal with, such as the goal-line problem.
The goal line problem is the most controverial one because, it requires a high precision at the moment of whistling a goal; that is very difficult for the lineman ( the referee who is in charge of validating a goal in most of the cases) who is like 50 meters away from the goal line.
In consequence of that,  the FIFA, soccer’s world governing body,  allowed the implementation of two systems: Hawk-Eye and GoalRef ( click on the link for further information). The technological initiative was put in practice in the current  England's League (2012 - 2013) as an approach whichis planning to be developed in the  2014 World Cup, Brazil.
With that measure, and despite the fans' claims, soccer is trying to reach perfection  and it wants to fix those eternal problems that has caused more than a headache to teams who were affected by wrong referee's desicion.
As you could see,  Soccer could not be excluded from this Technological Era. Soccer is getting more precise and accurate but, it is losing that magical quality of being polemic and a source of unique's discussion among fans. Also, the referees, who were always in charge of  being detrimental to legitimate winner's team, are losing their prominence because of those measures.  It is a pitty that soccer is losing that "extra thing " which make it unique and  fascinating. Anyway, it is always a joy to see managers who fight for having at least one fair sport in this unfair world.

Let's play to be a referee !!!!
Was this a legitimate goal?

  1. I agree with you that adding the technological elements to the sport takes away some of the human emotions and the controversy and many times you can see at a Football match! But it still the right thing to do nevertheless. Because the new technologies help to make the right decision when validating a goal. And about the video, of course it was a legitimate goal! It was like one meter passed the line!

    1. The idea of showing that video was that in cases like that, referees can commit huge errors that can be detrimental to teams. As you might know, that was not a legitimate goal for the referee, so he went on with the game. That's why I think that it is better for soccer to have those technological issues, that for sure will make soccer a fairer game.
